Free Food For A Week!
Find out what I eat for a week only eating free
Find out what I eat for a week only eating free
food see how I got on with discarded
fruit and vegetables and foraging for
food stitching to the end where I'll be
seeing which things I'm going to carry
on doing and which things I'll never do
again hi this is from debt-free mortgage
free here discuss ideas tips and tricks
to help pay off debt and mortgage save
money and make money we certainly did
that we paid off a few mortgages and all
of our debt and I love to share tips and
tricks with you so our topic today is I
am going to live for a week with only
free food okay so I'm going to have
water which is free I'm going to have
any free food that I come across and I'm
gonna try and source free food from
wherever I can so eating free for a week
actually came about because of a friend
who was in need and I just happened to
be there so she told me she has no money
for food and I was able to give her some
money and pointed in the direction of a
food bank and also other charities and
all those social services so that gave
me the idea how would I cope what would
I do if I have landed in that situation
I would go to food bank and I'm
recommending to people who genuinely
find themselves without food to go and
get help get proper help go to a food
bank go to a charity go to your local
social services but because I'm not
really needing to use a food bank you
might don't want to use food bank
because I have enough money I am going
to try and do it without using food
banks rates in charities another point
to note is that my family aren't doing
this I'm not sure how much food I'm
going to get like I said it's break time
and I have
had water today I'm quite hungry so I
don't want to deprive my children or my
husband of things just for a challenge
so just keeping it to myself
okay so here I am in a garden in town
and just spotted a rosemary bush so this
will add lots of flavor to soups and
things like that so lovely free rosemary
bush okay so in the library about this
book and have loads of ideas of food
there is dandelion coffee I don't drink
coffee but that's easy things to do so I
think these weeds are bitter cress and I
think it tastes a little bit like rocket
I'm not an expert this is just what my
book tells me so I'm going to pick a
little bit of this now and use it as
like a spinach or a salad
so I've come out for a walk around the
farmer's fields here because often
you'll find by the size of the field
areas where they haven't managed to
harvest the crops so sometimes you find
things like potatoes or other vegetables
that just maybe they're no good or the
too small and somehow out on the hunt
for some of those just now so the
hedgerows were pretty bare and the
farmers feel were maybe a bit more
promising I managed to get some potatoes
a couple of kind of whole discarded
potatoes none of them green green
potatoes would be poisonous so none of
them are green they've also managed to
get a couple of kind of old leaves yeah
these are all just not one way to go to
you small or kind of to bedraggled to be
able to sell but I should be able to
make this into some sort of soup
you
so come around the back because it's
very noisy around there just to see but
I've decided to barter with my friend so
I'm gonna look after her hands when she
is not here she's on a holiday and in
return I can grab a couple of hens eggs
and I just said to her that my hands are
not laying at the moment which is true
one of them is not laying at the moment
I just feel like if I use hen eggs from
my actual hens because I've bought the
food to pay to pay for them that really
that's not free so it would just be
cheating to use my own eggs so I've
actually bought it a service with
somebody for eggs okay so another
success with the app audio which gives
away free food people give away free
food with I have managed to find and
quickly nab a loaf of bread
so this loaf of bread is frozen just
show you it now so it was frozen just
after the 27th of December the lady said
so it was left over at Christmas and she
said she threw it in the freezer got no
use for it now so I can use it for toss
she said don't use it as fresh fresh
because it won't be fresh enough so I've
got some toast
I managed to get cup of tea at work
could have had coffee and that's all
provided for me there
somebody had a birthday cake but I just
didn't feel like birthday cake so what I
managed to find was a voucher okay so
I'm gonna split the camera around show
the voucher that a fact so here we've
got 50 Piaf malt loaf and on a loaf and
something else as well so I'm gonna head
into the supermarket now and see if I
can get hold of this for 50p so if it's
only 50 P it's for free that'd be great
I need to get the fruity one that was 50
P and I have a coupon for 50p that was
free and the same for the Apple loaf and
that was 50 P 490 grams so it was
completely free with the voucher
from the cafe I also managed to get this
little Hall so I've got coffee which I
actually don't drink but I'm going to
put them into work and swap for a couple
of teabags and I got some milk the hair
with the tea and I also got some jam
some mayonnaise because I presume I'll
be having some salads and salt and
pepper and sugar as well so some salt
pepper and sugar too
we have a free side from KFC and here it
is
and they also managed to stock up on
some milk as well so the KFC and all the
fast-food restaurants great place to get
little extras another great way to eat
out for free it's by signing up with
mystery shopping companies I'm signed up
with quite a few in my area and I
regularly go out for meals and eating
fast food restaurants with the
allocation that they give me then I fill
out a questionnaire afterwards about my
experiences unfortunately they were not
available this week but I have signed up
for a few the next week
my library runs a free seed library so
this way you can go in and get seeds for
free and you grow a few extra unfits
vegetables on from seed and to bring the
seeds back into the library and you can
take more out so it's completely free
way to grow through vegetables so if my
veg patch even that's February I managed
to find some beetroot this is grown for
free takes a bit of planning but for
free and I managed to make a beetroot
hummus typing we should have on toast
and just a few more vegetables and
nutrients I applied for another free
beet which was a graze box so this is
the box that came so I need to cancel
it's a subscription service so I need to
cancel the subscription but the first
box was free so I managed to get all
these snacks for free look out for free
events in your community
so this of
here is when I go to regularly it's
organized by a church in my area and it
offers activity to the children and
crafting things to do and also a lovely
meal which she share with the other
people there that's a really nice way of
eating out enjoying yourself but it
doesn't cost anything donations are
welcome at the end of the meal which go
towards the food bank so my husband
donated towards the food bank this week
for us we were lucky enough to be gifted
some food from a neighbor just turn it
so it's fantastic if you can get in the
habit and when you have a surplus
something maybe baking or something
great in the garden or just flowers even
that you found if you take them to
neighbors and friends and other people
that they'll pay you back so it's a
great source of free food for everybody
because everybody shares with everyone
else
definitely community relationships are
important and I really think they help
us out a lot with our food costs I was
also lucky enough to be invited over to
somebody's house for dinner which is
really nice I was able to pick some
flowers for free because it's spring so
I had a lovely bunch of flowers to take
with me and I also think if you invite
people back again maybe when you've got
a surplus of food it's good to keep that
going it's just a nice evening to spend
with friends so I really enjoyed the
free food challenge but I don't think I
got enough nutrients so if I was to do
it again I would definitely be looking
at sources of protein so I might try
fishing or lobster pots some people here
put lobster pots down at low tide and
then wait for high tide to come and go
back and get them again at the next low
tide and sometimes you can get crabs and
lobsters and things like that and the
other thing would be using pole to fish
normally Fisheries in the area you have
to pay for but see fish
it's okay I'm not experienced that it
would take me a while to learn it but I
definitely would get that shot the
things that I'm going to carry on doing
once I finish this challenge I'm
definitely going to use the olio app
which gives free food from donations
from other people I'm definitely going
to keep checking for coupons getting
free items or I wouldn't be that's
amazing I'm also going to keep using my
seed library in the library and grow
things for free
some hoping that I'm able to really
reduce my produce spends by growing
things myself I am also going to do a
little bit more research into foraging
and finding things for free that are
just grown wild because I think that's a
great source of free food I just don't
really know what if about it at the
moment so that's one for the future
definitely there are two things I won't
do it again the first thing is taking
the little sachets of milk because I
feel like it's stealing so I try and
organize that a different way and the
other thing is I didn't like taking
other people's hens eggs by bartering so
I think what I do that I train sauce
some free food for my hens instead next
time so I'm thinking about asking
canteens and places like that if they're
throwing away food if it's useful maybe
to take some for my hands
